The community needs to continue to focus resources on the following substance abuse prevention and mental health promotion goals:
• PROMOTE LITERACY and invest in evidence-based elementary and secondary literacy instruction.
• RESOURCES TO ADDRESS IMPULSIVITY to help at-risk children develop behavioral skills.
• MORE CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT SUPPORTS for teachers to help prevent emotional triggers and dysregulation and to increase academic motivation.
• PAIR PROGRAMS that are tailored for groups at both schools and in the community to reinforce messaging.
• INCREASE TRAUMA-INFORMED SCHOOL PRACTICES such as whole-school training and de-escalation rooms to address the needs of children with ACEs.
• AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMMING should be more available, located near school buildings, supported with transportation options, and subsidized based on income. This programming should include evidence-backed methods to increase the 40 protective factors.
