5 Take-Aways from Recent Meeting

Welcome to the Arlington County Council of PTAs (CCPTA). The CCPTA comprises local PTA units from 22 elementary schools, 5 middle schools and 3 high schools located in Arlington County. Organized under the authority of the Virginia PTA, our mission is to promote the goals of PTA - supporting and speaking on behalf of children in our schools, helping parents to be effective guardians and role models for their children, and encouraging greater parental involvement at the school level.

5 Take-Aways from February 28, 2011 Meeting

Monthly CCPTA Brainstorming and Information Sessions will take place at 6PM on the same nights as the scheduled CCPTA meetings. Meeting topics will be identified at the the CCPTA meeting the month before based on CCPTA Rep feedback. Everyone is invited to attend these sessions and remain for the official CCPTA meeting that immediately follows. Please let your CCPTA Rep or Laura Novak know if you have a topic you would like to explore.
Reflections information has been communicated to school Reflection Chairs and is available on the CCPTA web site. This year's theme: Diversity is... Questions about the contest should be directed to Cecelia Espenoza. Reflection Chairs are invited to join us for a brainstorming and information sharing session at 6PM on October 17th in Room 101at the Education Center (1426 N. Quincy Street)
Superintendent Murphy provided an preview of APS 2011/12 school year during which we discussed first School Dropout rates. Attached is a copy of the APS Report: A REVIEW OF EFFORTS TO DATE TO REDUCE DROPPING OUT OF SCHOOL. Also attached is a report on The First Day of School.
Capacity and Enrollment continues to be a topic of discussion - and will be be for the foreseeable future. On Wed., October 5th 7:00-8:30 pm at W-L High School APS will be presenting More Seats for More Students about facility planning and steps taken to address the space needs due to increasing enrollment.
